The Sri Lankan Team- team composition

For a small island near our sub continent the Sri Lankans produce dynamos much beyond a statistical sample can predict. But unfortunately they have not been able to get over the dependence on Sanath Jaya Suriya to give them the explosive starts and he is not getting any younger. Sangakkara is not only turning out to be a fine player but a good captain and Mahela Jayawardhene provides support with those graceful strokes. The experience is there and the young talent is slowly surfacing like Ajantha Mendis and Lasith Malinga.sri-lanka-cricket-logo

  • kumara Sangakkara. A rejuvenated Sangakkara will be leading from the front for sure, what with the innumerable hugs he has got fro Preity Jinta.
  • Muttaiah Muralidharan. The old war horse ploughs on still ensnaring unwitting batsmen with his spell.
  • Sanath Jayasuriya. May be one should lose count of numerous announcements of retirement. The age may start catching up with him. But you can expect him to give his best shot.
  • Tilaka Ratne Dilshan. He is in awesome form after the IPL and one can be sure he will continue where he left off with the Dare Devils.
  • Mahela Jayawardhane. Proved to the world that grace has not lost its charm in the T20 format. Will still pace the run rate with elegance and is turning out to be good finisher too.
  • Chamara Silva . Can play some scintillating shots on the off side.
  • Angelo Mathews. The big stage has been set and will beckon this young player to do some hard talking with his bat.
  • Ajantha Mendis. The magician Sri Lanka has sprung upon the world and expect many a batsman to bite the dust.
  • Lasith Malinga. His sling action keeps the ball low and makes it difficult to get underneath as the IPL had discovered. A potent weapon in the arsenal of Sri lankan pace attack.
  • Thilan Thushara. Another important part of Sri Lankan in pace attack. Expected to do well in the IPL too.
  • Nuwan Kulasekara. He can generate some pace and move the ball too.

The New Zealand Team- The black caps

newzealandThe New Zealand team has often punctured the egos of the Indians and kept their feet on terra firma. They have a very able captain in Daniel Vettori who has done well in the IPL too. Although they have some good batsmen like Brendon Mccullum, Ross Taylor and Jesse Ryder, the bowling department seems to lack the sting. This is the team to watch out for and they will surely make their intentions clear in the opening group matches.

1.      Daniel Vettori. He has emerged from the shadows of pace bowlers and batsmen to captain the New Zealand side. Like our very own Jumbo and Shane Warne who are making a name for themselves after retirement he is determined to make a name for himself and the Black Caps while still wearing the cap.

2. Neil Broom. Middle order batsmen who has joined the team this year.

3. Ian Butler. Born again pacer for New Zealand. His contribution could be crucial for the black caps.

4. Brendon Diamanti. Middle order batsman who can hit the ball very hard.

5. James Franklin. Makes up the pace attack with his swing. Left handed. He has a test century to his credit and will look to add some quick runs lower down the order.

6. Martin Guptill. Opening batsman who scored a century on his debut. The Black Caps will no doubt look up to him to give the head start.

7. Brendon Mccullum. Wicket keeper batsman who can explode. He was the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL but his team did not perform well.

8. Nathan Mccullum. Another of the brothers duo of the Inter National cricket. Certainly overshadowed by his younger brother’s explosiveness.

9. Ross Taylor. He made a name for himself in propelling the Bangalore team to the finals in the IPL.

10.  Jesse Ryder. He was a thorn in the flesh to the Indians. The cherubic hard hitter can bowl too.

11.  Jacob Oram. He has a good economy rate for his medium pace and can get some quick runs playing down the order.
