Yahoo’s new Home Page

Yahoo has come out with a new look to its home page. This proposal was under way for more than 9 months now but finally it has been unveiled in the U.S. It will soon be the thing for users in India and France and subsequently world wide.

Yahoo Home page can now be customized and widgets or gadgets can be added to it. Yahoo has also developed apps that can be added and soon this may be open to third party developers. The apps also include searches through third parties whose link has to be clicked on and is integrated with Yahoo’s own Search.

The actual Yahoo page is similar to those that were revealed this year. The content is more personalized and the color of the left side bar is no more dark. One more feature that Yahoo has revealed is about selecting the type of news you want displayed. This is enabled by a slide bar and the extremes are “fun” and “serious” or you can get a mix of both and the combination is selected by the position of the slide.

Yahoo has also realized the futility of displaying the Links to all its services on the Home Page and cluttering it up. Only those services that the user intends to use can be chosen for display and can be personalized and customized.

The mobile versions and the desk top versions will also be synchronized.

But one wonders what will be the fate of the Yahoo page if Microsoft buys up the search and on line advertising business of Yahoo.

Will Yahoo exist in its present state?

How will its other services exist minus the search and advertising?

I guess we will know the answers in couple of days.
