WordWeb accentuates Word Power on your Fingertips through Dictionary and Thesaurus. It is an extremely useful program when you come across an unusual word or need a synonym for a word quickly.wordweb

Installation

WordWeb is free and easy to install as a portable app on a flash drive where you can set the install to create a portable version of  WordWeb as a full-time operation or on-demand app. Also, you have the option to choose the English Locale according to your preferences. Next, in the choice that you make concerning installation do not install to system tray that could be selected instead of the default.

Finally, you can see the effect of selecting “Do not install to system tray” in the Advanced Options window for which you will have to use the Start Menu icon to start the program. WordWeb also tells you exactly how to “install to the system tray” if you change your mind and would like to have WordWeb running full-time.

WordWeb in Action

For example when you choose the word “lovely” as a demonstration on WordWeb app, you will notice the multi-tab setup that gives you many options to choose from when researching a word or phrase.

Adjective: lovely (lovelier, loveliest)

  • Appealing to the emotions as well as the eye
  • Lovable especially, in a childlike or naive way

Noun: lovely

  • A very pretty girl who works as a model for a photographer

The menus in WordWeb are as follows:

  • The Bookmarks Menu
  • Copy Menu
  • Options Menu
  • Help Menu

In the upper right corner of the WordWeb app window you will notice two buttons. The first and second are Hear pronunciation and View in web browser respectively.

Other Reference Tabs

If you would like to look at other sources of information about the word or phrase you are researching, you can do so using the following tabbed interface:

  • Wikipedia Tab
  • Wiktionary

You can also access online searching for your word or phrase where the options available are good enough.

Additional Language References

There are additional tabs in WordWeb that are available in Chinese to help with researching words and phrases. They are as follows:

  • Wikipedia in Simplified Chinese
  • And Wiktionary in Simplified Chinese

Note: On English only systems these additional tabs are not available.
