The applications that have been rejected for use on the iPhone.

The App Store has grown to become the world’s largest wireless applications store, with over 65,000 applications in the last  one year. There are several applications that have been rejected on the iPhone for a variety of reasons and most of the rejections are based on the application containing quality issues or software bugs, while other rejections involve protecting consumer privacy, safeguarding children from inappropriate content and avoiding the applications that seem to degrade the core experience of the iPhone usage. Mainly, this has been due to the volume and variety of technical issues as most of the review process is concerned with quality issues and software bugs and feedback provided to the developers so that they can fix the applications for better and easy usage without any hassles to the iPhone user. The applications that are fixed and resubmitted have been approved by Apple to maintain their status quo in the market .

The following are a list of the representative applications that have been rejected as originally submitted and their current status:

  • Twittelator, by Stone Design Corporation, was initially rejected because it crashed during loading, but the developer subsequently fixed the application and it has been approved subsequently.
  • iLoveWiFi, by iCloseBy LLC, was rejected because it used undocumented application protocols and it has not been resubmitted in the iPhones till date.
  • SlingPlayer Mobile, by Sling Media, was initially rejected because redirecting a TV signal to an iPhone using AT&T cellular network is prohibited by AT&T customer Terms of Service and Agreement. The developer subsequently fixed the application to use WiFi only and it has been approved as well.
  • Lingerie Fantasy Video (Lite), by On The Go Girls, LLC, was initially rejected because it displayed nudity and explicit sexual content in it, but the developer subsequently fixed the application and it has been approved with the use of it for users over 17 years of age.

Is too much being made of the apps for smart phones? Considering Google’s offering of cash prize of a quarter million dollars for Android and the much publicized 50,000 apps that Apple boasts of, How many of these apps that are developed actually find their way into the smart phones?

Figures have now been released for the number of users that actually use these apps. Well, the figures are not encouraging and not worth all the trouble that developers take. Considering there were a million down loads of the lectures taken at Stanford for podcasting, it seems the developer interest is more than the user interesr in these apps.

It was estimated that out of the million downloads of the podcasting eventually only 5000 may become developers. Already some 50,000 apps exist for iPhone. Figures released after tracking mare than 2000 apps reveal that only 5% or just more than 100 apps are actually used by more than 1,00,000 iPhone users. This actually means that most of the apps developed are not very popular nor are economically viable.

This could be one of the reasons why Apple is now permitting developers to directly approach the users. Out of the 5000 developers that may eventually emerge out of the course given at Stanford only 5% may taste commercial success that is a mere 250.

Then is it worth the trouble people take in learning and developing apps ?

Wouldn’t it be better for Apple or Google to develop the apps themselves?

But we guess its more about entrepreneurship and trying. Its always very few who succeed.

Yesterday i felt bored a bit and i was going through orkut, then some thing caught my eye. thats nothing but the game chess in orkut. i played it and got confused initially. but later i got addicted to it :) .

That was really a cool game. and interestingly the wins and losses in that are counted and added to ur score. I thought of remvoing the application from my orkut profile to get rid of losses that i made in confusion. But no use. so be careful. what ever u play will effect your score.
