I have written about Prowl earlier and I have found that it is very popular with readers. Now Gmail Growl 1.5 has been released which is a free down load. The earlier Prowl was Mac oriented and Growl with the support of Prowl works on Windows too.
Growl monitors your Gmail and notifies you when you get a new message. It will also forward alerts to your iPhone. To make Growl functional you have to follow the given procedure.
- Sign up for Prowl.
- Down Load and install Gmail Growl 1.5
- Down load and install Growl for Windows.
- Enter your prowl user name and pass word in to Growl for Windows.
- Provide your Gmail log in info to Growl.
The new features of Gmail Growl are :
- Gmail Growl uses IMAP IDLE for push notifications. If they are not allowed the Growl will revert to polling.
- Growl will detect network changes e.g from LAN to Wi FI.
- Hot key has been provided for compose from clip board.
- Notifies the sender’s name instead of the subject which has been moved to the text and also displays URL
- eMails can be perused again if you missed the notification by the “Show Me” procedure.
