CodySafe is a cool new way to transport and access your favorite portable applications on a stick. The user interface is visually appealing and is very easy to use for even beginers. CodySafe was developed in full compliance with PortableApps platform and any application downloaded there and installed to the CodySafe-enabled drive will be fully functional.
Presently, CodySafe is available in beta version which is a bit time consuming to download and install. If you have the time and gumption CodySafe is definitely an excellant new tool for portable applications.
CodySafe is similar to PortableApps, which allows you to carry around your favorite open source apps on a USB. Today it is offering good competition to PortableApps as several users have switched over to CodySafe.
Installation
CodySafe installation is pretty straight forward by following the install wizard, while there are tool components that are optional but I recommend installing them because they are pretty useful.
Obviously, you want to make sure you are installing to the correct portable USB drive. Unlike PortableApps there are no applications installed by default in CodySafe. Quiet similar to PortableApps you will have the drive tools and folder directories but you will need to add the applications individually.
When you click to get more applications in Codysafe, it will bring you to ‘codyssey website’ where you can browse through different categories. You are also urged to use similar websites including, portableapps.com, portablefreeware.com, and pendriveapps.com.
Installing the Applications
Let’s take a look at adding an application developed by Codessy called Freeraser which is a file shredder that will securely delete data. When running the installation wizard you must ensure to select a portable drive for the installation mode. Also, make sure you are installing it to the correct USB drive that CodySafe is installed on. On completion of the installation you will see the new application in the Start menu of CodySafe.
Added Features
Codysafe has some cool additional tools available in the CodySafe Control Panel that can be installed including, Drive Doctor that will scan and repair sectors on the USB drive. The other added tools are Find-if-Lost, Language Settings and Apps Manager.
Find-if-Lost: helps to set personal info that can be useful in acse the device is lost or stolen.
Language Settings: sets the CodySafe interface language.
Apps Manager: adds, removes and organizes your applications. It also sets your apps to autostart.
Conclusion
CodySafe enables you to easily ‘access your PC on a stick’.
