Orkut.com.br , orkut.co.in to orkut.com ( .co.in , .com.br to .com)

Many of my reader friends are repeatedly asking me how to change from some country specific domains of orkut like orkut.co.in, orkut.com.br  to ORKUT.COM. Before learning how to change this. Lets have a look at the advantages and disadvantages of changing from one to other.

Advantages:

1. orkut.com loads faster than orkut.co.in or orkut.com.br.

2. If some of your friends give you Orkut.com links, then your browser will frustrate in changing them to ur .co.in or .com.br.

3. Grease Monkey scripts will work for ur orkut.com pages. (since majority are written for .com)

Disadvantages:

1. In ur orkut search results, you wont get ur country specific results as .com is universal.

2. If any one send you some .co.in or .com.br link, the same browser will get frustrated.

Its very easy to migrate from .com.br or .co.in to .com . How???

  • Go to the bottom of your page. (See the above screenshot.)
  • Here Click on “Go to Orkut.com”
  • You Are Done!!

Orkut getting safer- every day, tracking of offensive ptofiles and communities

I have been observing some important changes in the orkut lately. I could still remember the orkut in 2005 when it is fairly new to everyone. All we get was just a profile page with some no restrictions communities, but now orkut has many Api interfaces and mashups taking place.

To say in a marketing point of view, orkut has evolved from its web1.0 structure to web2.0 structure. It has got ajax forms, applications, events, restrictions on scrapbooks, albums as required by the individual and many more.

Now, orkut has also thought of taking care about the offensive content in profiles, communities etc. As a result the following feature is added recently about the Offensive content.

Facebooks scams kept on increasing..

The battle between Facebook users and the crooks and hackers just keeps rolling along. The criminals love these social networking sites because they can hijack the identity of a person known or trusted by you to attempt a fraud. The goal, as always, is to relieve you of your money or identity, or both.

The latest fraud involves the so-called Nigerian 419 scam, but with a twist. Instead of getting an email from someone in Nigeria offering you money, you receive an email from someone you know. The message says the person is stranded in Lagos, Nigeria, so please send money so he can return home.

You may be tempted to send the cash, but be careful. This is probably a fraud. Your friend’s email account may have been hijacked, and the message is being sent to all his contacts. It is very easy to fake a return address in an email.

Read the message carefully. Are there any grammar or spelling mistakes? Improper usage of slang or popular terms? Would your friend really send such a message to you? Think twice, or more, before responding.

Most social networking sites are vulnerable to this kind of attack. As I have said many times, minimize the amount of personal information you reveal in your profile. Check what your kids are revealing in their own profiles.

Yesterday i felt bored a bit and i was going through orkut, then some thing caught my eye. thats nothing but the game chess in orkut. i played it and got confused initially. but later i got addicted to it :) .
